How We Assist

How Niagara Victim Crisis Support Services (NVCSS) works.

The often unknown partner to our Police, Fire, Hospitals, and Emergency Medical Services, NVCSS offers emotional and practical assistance to victims of crime and tragedy. Our primary goal is to help immediately, 24 hours a day, right at the time of the crisis and then to act as a bridge to other community services which can provide long term support. For the safety of our volunteers, referrals are taken only from emergency service professionals, with the victim’s consent.

NVCSS is here to:

  • Help the victim cope with the impact of crime and/or tragic circumstance
  • Help victims regain a sense of personal control
  • Help victims return their lives to a desired degree of stability
  • Validate emotions and reactions
  • Assist the victim in accessing appropriate support services in our community
  • Help prevent victimization through education, planning and strategies
  • Provide opportunities for community members to help others in their own community
  • Lessens the trauma of victims

"Assistance is provided free of charge by accredited volunteers in cooperation with local Emergency Services."
