Volunteering with us.
If you are a caring person with good communication skills and a non- judgmental attitude, we could use you!
Working in conjunction with the Police Services, EMS, fire services and hospitals, you will assist victims of crime and tragedy within the Niagara Region.
Mature women and men, 21 years of age and over, are welcome to apply. There must be a commitment to undergo a series of training sessions and to a minimum of hours of service per month.
Because of the sensitive nature of the issues our volunteers are involved with, we are careful in our application process. Potential volunteers complete an application form, interview, submit to a police check, supply letters of reference and then attend an accreditation training process to prepare for assisting victims.
Our committed volunteers have shown amazing dedication: 92% complete at least a year of service, while 38% have been volunteers for more than 5 years. We’ve just had 2 volunteers “retire” after 10 years of service!
What our volunteers are saying.
Here are some testimonials from some of our caring volunteers:
- “Satisfaction and rewards are huge after helping someone in crisis. Leaving a person with resources to turn to allows me to feel I’ve empowered them – a Great feeling!”
- “It makes you feel good to help others at their worst possible time. They seem so lost, confused and just being able to talk seems to give some relief of pain and they often don’t look so helpless or hopeless after we have visited.”
- “What makes it fulfilling for me is the ongoing training offered, volunteer recognition, and support from office staff.”
- “This has been the most rewarding and educational volunteer work that I have ever done. The experience and situations offered to me have changed who I am forever.”
