Niagara Victim Crisis Support Service assists emergency services in providing short term emotional support and practical assistance to victims of crime, tragic circumstance and disaster. Office space is generously provided by the Niagara Regional Police Service. NVCSS objectives are to:
- Help the victim cope with the impact of crime and/or tragic circumstance. Referrals may include such incidents as domestic violence, family occurrence, sexual assault, robbery, assault, break and enter, property crimes/damage, homicide, completed suicide, attempted suicide, fire, sudden death, stalking and traffic accidents. Dealing with Crisis is something we may all face at any time in our lives. Sudden death, physical, sexual or emotional abuse, homicide or suicide are all tragedies that can strike anyone at anytime. In addition to fear, rage, isolation, and confusion, victims may experience intense mental and physical distress. Immediate emotional support and practical assistance can help victims cope more effectively with a crisis. Crisis assistance is provided by specially trained volunteer crisis intervenors who are on call in the Niagara Region - 24 hours, 7 days a week. Niagara Victim Crisis Support Service is a registered charitable organization (Reg. Number 001272724). As such, NVCSS is the grateful recipient of assistance from a variety of sources. The Niagara Regional Police Service provides NVCSS with office space and access to phone lines through the police switchboard. Service organizations contribute to the resources provided by volunteers to the victims that NVCSS serves, such as, grief kits for children, Fresh Start books for victims of domestic violence. The Board of Directors for NVCSS is actively involved in fundraising through the Town of Fort Erie Bingo, Nevada Ticket Sales, and special events planning. |
